Tantalum tungsten alloy (TaW alloy) is a high density material with high melting point, high tensile strength, good dynamic ductility and corrosion resistance, which is suitable for explosive forming penetration body (EFP) warhead drug type cover. The results show that the penetration performance of tantalum 2.5 tungsten alloy coating is 30%~35% higher than that of copper coating. However, the existing production method of tantalum 2.5 tungsten material has great shortcomings, that is, the product grain is coarse, uneven and poor, which leads to the material's practical application is limited.

A new production method, the specific steps are as follows: 1) the tantalum tungsten ingot is forged for the first time, and the tantalum tungsten ingot after the first forging is subjected to the first heat treatment, the heat treatment temperature is 1000-1500°C, the heat treatment time is 60-150min; 2) The tantalum tungsten ingot obtained in step 1 is forged for the second time, and the tantalum tungsten ingot after the second forging is heat treated for the second time, and the heat treatment temperature and time are the same as that of the first heat treatment; 3) The tantalum and tungsten ingots obtained in step 2 are rolled (the total processing rate is 75%~85%), and the rolled tantalum and tungsten ingots are heat treated for the third time to obtain tantalum and tungsten materials.

Precautions of the production technology: (1) The first forging step in step 1 is to heat and hold the tantalum tungsten ingot for axial upsetting (upsetting ratio is 1.6~2.0), and then radial drawing (drawing ratio is 1.6~2.5); (2) After the first forging and the second forging, the tantalum tungsten ingots need to be pickled, and the pickling solution is a mixed solution of hydrofluoric acid, sulfuric acid and nitric acid; (3) After the second heat treatment, a third forging of the tantalum tungsten ingot after the second heat treatment is also included.

The advantages of the production technology are: through two forging, the internal grains of the ingot are fully broken and the internal structure is uniform, and the subsequent rolling causes uniform deformation in all directions of the ingot, ensuring that the tantalum tungsten material has uniform mechanical properties and microstructure in all directions.
