Chinese chromium ore resources are poor, according to the extent to meet the demand, is a shortage of resources. The total reserve ore was 10.78 million tons, of which 53.6 percent were enriched. There are 56 areas of chromium mineral deposits in Tibet, xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, gansu and other 13 provinces (regions). Tibet is the most important, with reserves of about half of the country. The Chinese chromium deposit is a typical magmatic deposit related to ultrabasic rocks, most of which belong to ophiolite type, and deposit occurs in ophiolite belt. This is the case with the rolosa chromium mine in Tibet, and the xinjiang saltosea chromium mine. From the perspective of metallogenic epoch, China's chrome-forming era is dominated by Mesozoic and Cenozoic era.

Metal chromium is mainly used to smelt special alloys with elements such as cobalt, nickel and tungsten. These special steel and special alloys are indispensable materials for aviation, aerospace, automobile, shipbuilding, and defense industry to produce guns, missiles, rockets and ships.

In refractory materials, chromite is used to make chrome bricks, chrome-magnesite bricks and other special refractory materials. Chromium has a hydrophilic and pro-ferric nature, which is strong in hydrophilic and only shows pro-sulfur in the case of high degree of reduction and sulfur. Under the condition of endogenous effect, chromium usually has a trivalent value. The Cr3+ and Al3+ and Fe3+ ionic radii of the six acid positions are close to each other, so they can exhibit a wide range of homologous analogues. In addition, the elements that can be substituted with chromium are also Mn, Mg, Ni, Co, Zn, etc., so there is a wide distribution of chromium in magnesium iron silicate minerals and accessory minerals. Under the strong oxidation condition (alkaline medium), Cr3+ is oxidized into Cr6+ form of chromate ion, which makes the inactive chromium ion become soluble chromium anion migration. Highly polarizable ions (such as Cu, Pb, etc.) form an insoluble chromium acidic mineral. There are about 50 kinds of chromium minerals found in nature, which belong to oxides, chromates and silicates. There are also a few hydroxides, iodide, nitrides and sulphides. The chromium nitride and chromium sulfide minerals are found only in meteorites. The national development and reform commission issued notice no. 46, which approved 204 industry standards. Among them, 30 items of metallurgical charge products and supplies were involved and implemented on December 1 of that year. Ferrochrome ores are divided into metallurgical, chemical, refractory and cast-stone grades by industrial use.
