Titanium alloy is a new kind of structural and functional material with excellent comprehensive properties, low density and high specific strength. Titanium has a density of 4.51g/cm 3, between aluminum (2.7g/cm 3) and iron (7.6g/cm 3). The specific strength of titanium alloy is higher than that of aluminum alloy and steel. Titanium and titanium alloy corrosion resistant performance is good, better than stainless steel, especially the resistance to chloride ion erosion in the Marine atmosphere environment and good corrosion resistance under oxidizing atmosphere, with wider working temperature of titanium alloy, the titanium alloy at low temperature in 253 ℃ can keep good plasticity, and heat resistant titanium alloy working temperature can reach 550 ℃, its heat resistance is significantly higher than aluminum and magnesium alloys. At the same time, it has good machinability and welding performance.
Advantages of titanium: high strength, light weight, high temperature resistance, strong corrosion resistance modulus is about half of steel, low coefficient of thermal expansion, about 50% of stainless steel and aluminum, non-magnetic, low thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance, no pollution to the environment. Therefore, titanium has been widely used not only in aerospace industry and chemical industry, but also in automobile industry. Automotive titanium can greatly reduce vehicle weight, reduce fuel consumption, improve work efficiency, improve the environment and reduce noise.
The engine connecting rod made of titanium alloy can effectively reduce engine mass, improve fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust volume. Titanium linkages are 15 to 20 percent lighter than steel ones. The application of titanium alloy connecting rod was first demonstrated in the new ferrari 3.5LV8 and Acura NSX engines in Italy. The main materials used in titanium alloy connecting rods are ti-6al-4v, ti-10v-2fe-3al, ti-3al-2.0v and ti-4al-4mo-sn-0.5si, etc. Other titanium alloy materials such as ti-4al-2si-4mn and ti-7m-4mo are also under development.
