Cutting characteristics of tantalum workpiece

Firmetal, 2020-3-6 08:16:00 PM

Tantalum has a melting point of 2980℃, second only to tungsten (3380℃) in common refractory metals, and a density of 16.67 g/cm3. Under annealing condition, tantalum has good plasticity and is stable at high temperature, so it can absorb and hold gas. Tantalum is acid resistant and is a biocompatible material. Tantalum is widely used in electronics, chemical, medical and other industries. At the same time, tantalum is an indispensable material for making hard alloy.

Tantalum has high melting point, high density, good plasticity in annealing state and stable performance at high temperature. After annealing, the tantalum material is soft and tough, which will produce serious adhesion phenomenon during cutting, causing the adhesive wear of the tool. Especially when the cutting speed is lower than 20m/min, the phenomenon of sticking and tearing is more serious. When the cutting speed is higher than 40m/min, the tearing phenomenon is greatly reduced. The cutting tool is required to be as sharp as possible, cutting speed should not be too low. Generally used as carbide cutting tool materials, commonly used are YG8, YW2. The tool geometric parameters are: γ O=35o ~ 45o, α O=5o ~ 8o, Κ R = 90 o, & Kappa; & prime; R = 5 o, & gamma; O1 = 2 o ~ 2 o, bγ =0.1 ~ 0.3mm, rε =0.2 ~ 0.5mm, roughness Ra< 0.16 ~ 0.32μ M to reduce friction and stick to the knife. The selection of cutting parameters is as follows: coarse turning ν C =30 ~ 70m/min, ap=5 ~ 8mm, f=0.2 ~ 0.4mm/r; Fine and semi-fine car time ν C =50 ~ 80m/min, ap≤ 1.5mm, f=0.1 ~ 0.3mm/r. Cutting should use both cooling and lubrication of the cutting fluid, the flow should be sufficient.
