The method for preparing niobium target material includes the following steps :A) Heat treatment of niobium ingot and drilling of niobium ingot after heat treatment; B) Cover the inner surface and outer surface of the niobium ingot obtained by step A) with the first metal material, and vacuum the obium ingot obtained; C) The inner surface and outer surface of the niobium ingot obtained are coated with a second metal material; D) Hot extrusion of the niobium ingot obtained from step c). In the process of preparing niobium target, the first metal is coated with the second metal in the inner surface and the outer surface of the niobium ingot in order to effectively avoid the absorption of hydrogen and oxygen in the preparation process of niobium target, and facilitate the processing of niobium target.
